Welcome to HistoryOops! Like the Treaty of Versailles (but considerably less complicated), these terms establish the ground rules for using our site.
- Acceptance of Terms By accessing HistoryOops.com, you agree to these terms of service – which are thankfully much simpler than the Holy Roman Empire’s constitution. If you disagree with any part of these terms, please exit the site (no dramatic exit like Napoleon from Elba necessary).
- Content Usage All content on HistoryOops.com is protected by copyright law, much like how the Library of Alexandria should have been protected from fire (too soon?). You may:
- Read and share our articles through social media
- Quote small portions with proper attribution
- Use content for personal, non-commercial purposes
You may not:
- Republish our content without written permission
- Sell or commercially exploit our content
- Present our content as your own (that’s called plagiarism, and it’s been uncool since Ptolemy took credit for other astronomers’ work)
- User Contributions When commenting or contributing to our site:
- Keep it family-friendly (unlike Henry VIII’s family tree)
- Provide accurate information (more Herodotus, less Baron Munchausen)
- Respect other users (we’re all history enthusiasts here)
- Account Security Protect your account password better than Louis XVI protected Versailles. We are not responsible for unauthorized access due to poor password choices (like “MarieAntoinette123”).
- Privacy We collect about as much data as a medieval census taker – which is to say, the bare minimum necessary. See our Privacy Policy for details.
- Site Modifications We reserve the right to modify the site and these terms at any time, though we promise to be more transparent about it than the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
- Termination We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these terms, though we promise the process will be less dramatic than the fall of the Roman Empire.
- Disclaimer of Warranties While we strive for accuracy, we make no warranties about our content’s completeness or reliability – much like historical accounts of the height of Napoleon Bonaparte.
- Contact Information For questions about these terms, contact us at [contact information]. We promise to respond faster than the Congress of Vienna made decisions.
By using HistoryOops.com, you acknowledge that you’ve read and understood these terms. Thank you for being part of our historically-inclined community!
Note: These terms are legally binding, unlike that time Britain and Iceland went to war over cod (yes, that really happened).
